The Henry Doorly Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the country and has plans to build a Madagascar Exhibit in the future. It is a wonderful place to take kids of all ages and is open year-round. A family pass is available and is an excellent deal, allowing two adults and all dependent children admission for a full year. Don't forget the brand new Butterfly and Insect Exhibit that opened in May 2008. It is a total immersion exhibit where butterflies roam freely through the room and could even land on you!

Here are some other fun things that happen daily at the zoo:

Bears--Durham Bear Canyon at 11 AM
Shark Feeding on Wednesday and Saturdays only--inside the Scott Aquarium at 1:30 PM
Sea Lions--Owen Sea Lion Pavilion at 2:30 PM
River Otters--Small Mammals at 3 PM
Monkeys--Small Mammals at 3:30 PM

The zoo is also a great place to get some exercise. Because it is so large, one loop is quite the walk. Go for two loops and you will be in excellent shape! M2M plans on going to the zoo more frequently for playgroup in the fall. Keep checking back for the updated playgroup schedule!

Don't forget to put the Zoolympics on your calendar. This event will feature Flumpa, the six-foot-six tree frog and the singing scientist, Wendy, along with stations throughout the zoo where you can test your athletic skills. The Zoolympics will be held on Saturday, September 6th from 10 AM - 4 PM.
